How to connect HawkSoft to Claude with FreeBird, step by step
- Check what you need. A Windows 10 or 11 PC with HawkSoft 6 installed, and Claude Desktop signed in on a plan that allows connectors and skills. No administrator rights needed.
- Download FreeBird Setup. In your WhereToBegin.ai portal, click the FreeBird download button and run FreeBird Setup. If Windows shows a Windows protected your PC notice, click More info, then Run anyway.
- Let Setup close Claude for a moment. FreeBird adds itself to Claude's settings, so Claude has to be closed while that happens. Click Close Claude for me (click here to continue). FreeBird starts on your screen; you can switch it to the background later.
- Connect FreeBird. Click Connect FreeBird. Sign in with your WhereToBegin.ai account or start the free 5-day trial, type your initials and approve this computer in your browser.
- Continue in Claude. Click Continue in Claude. Claude opens with a message typed in: press Enter. Claude checks that HawkSoft is ready and shows the FreeBird skill on a card: click Save. Sign in to HawkSoft as usual when it opens.
- Ask Claude for HawkSoft work. Try a look-up on one of your own clients, like When does the Thornbury homeowners policy renew?
What FreeBird is
FreeBird is a small Windows app Ben built so Claude can do the HawkSoft work for you: prospects, certificates, ACORD forms, renewals and policy changes. You could record your own Claude skills and teach Claude HawkSoft step by step. FreeBird skips that, because Claude has already been taught everything it needs.
It works the way a person does, through HawkSoft's own screens, signed in as you with your HawkSoft permissions. There is no HawkSoft API to request and nothing to set up on HawkSoft's side. You install FreeBird, add one skill to Claude, and start asking.
FreeBird is made by WhereToBegin.ai, an independent company. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by HawkSoft, Inc., and it is not a HawkSoft product. HawkSoft is a trademark of HawkSoft, Inc.
Adding a prospect and an ACORD 125 from an email
The video opens with Ben's hands off the keyboard and mouse while Claude adds a new prospect in HawkSoft, in real time, from an email. If your Gmail or Outlook is connected to Claude, you can simply say you got an email from someone and ask Claude to add them as a prospect or make their certificate.
Every request follows the same pattern. FreeBird first checks whether the client already exists in HawkSoft and whether anything is missing. Claude then shows the plan, here an ACORD 125 for Ridgeline Bike Works filled from HawkSoft plus the facts in the email, attached to the client file and saved as a PDF under Documents, FreeBird, ACORD Forms. Ben said yes, and FreeBird created the form, checked the boxes, filled in the details and wrote the log note in under two minutes.
When it finished, a banner said to head back to Claude, where a recap listed exactly what was done and a link opened the folder with the new PDF. While FreeBird was preparing the plan, Ben kept typing as normal. In background mode, FreeBird runs HawkSoft on a hidden display, like a virtual screen, so it never takes over your computer at all.
Renewals, policy look-ups and adding a driver
Asking who renews in the next 30 days had FreeBird run a HawkSoft Quick Report and come back with expiration dates, clients, carriers, lines and premiums, the biggest renewal, and a button to turn it into a spreadsheet. Asking when the Thornbury homeowners policy renews came back with November 20th, 41 days out. Look-ups like these only read, so FreeBird does not take over the screen while they run.
Next Ben asked Claude to add a driver to the Pemberton auto policy. FreeBird found the Progressive policy, Claude asked permission, and once Ben said yes the driver was added in HawkSoft. Claude did not invent the details it was not given, like the driver's gender or relationship to the insured. You can also give Claude a caller's phone number and ask who it is, and FreeBird pulls their policies from HawkSoft.
| You ask Claude | What FreeBird does |
|---|---|
| Add this person from my email as a prospect. | Checks for a duplicate, then adds the prospect in HawkSoft. |
| Create an ACORD 125 for Ridgeline Bike Works. | Shows the plan, fills the form in HawkSoft, attaches it to the client and saves a PDF. |
| Who is renewing within the next 30 days? | Runs a HawkSoft Quick Report and lists dates, carriers, lines and premiums. |
| When does the Thornbury homeowners policy renew? | Reads the policy and answers. Nothing is changed. |
| Add a driver to the Pemberton auto policy. | Finds the policy, asks for your yes, then adds the driver. |
You approve every change, and your data stays local
FreeBird never does a task completely on its own. Every change starts with a plan that ends with Shall I go ahead?, and every finished task ends with a recap. Every log note it writes ends with [FreeBird], so your team can see which work was FreeBird's. It never sends emails, texts or e-signatures, never cancels or voids a policy, never touches money, and never types your password.
Everything runs locally on your computer. FreeBird is a connector between Claude and HawkSoft, so your client data is not uploaded to FreeBird or WhereToBegin.ai. What FreeBird reads for a request is shown to Claude in your conversation, under your agency's Claude plan.
